About the position:

The Senior Director of Education and Programming will oversee the coordination of all aspects of ongoing and future virtual and live events including planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating program activities.  The Senior Director of Education and Programming will have the ability to work independently when needed, as well as lead support staff on virtual and onsite events.   This position will work closely and collaboratively with the Development Executive, Senior Director of Operations, and Senior Director of Membership to ensure alignment with WCD’s strategic initiatives.

Snapshot of Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a strategy for the development and execution of WCD governance education and programs, including the WCD Global Institute, regional programs or institutes, WCDirect virtual programming, and other future offerings
  • Lead development and execution of national, international, and virtual institutes by owning event preparation including: identifying themes and topics; establishing contacts for speaker identification and selection; developing agendas and detailed master project plans – including timelines and assignments
  • Lead WCDirect virtual programming (approx. 2-4 monthly events) by owning event preparation including: identifying themes, topics, and speakers; developing agendas and program content as needed. This includes the management of the WCD virtual programming calendar and the coordination of weekly calls with WCD staff support
  • Coordinate with the CFO to create event budgets and review/validate all costs charged to events are within the established budgets
  • Monitor the program P&Lto ensure viability and program and education profitability, while supporting the membership value proposition
  • Survey members and work with a year-round member planning groupto identify key governance education opportunities and inform the direction of WCD institutes and WCDirect virtual programs
  • Communicate with stakeholders to provide status reports and recommendations for short term and long term programming objectives
  • Identify, engage, and cultivate positive professional relationships with current and prospective speakers through effective, accurate, timely, and reliable communication
  • Coordinate with the Development Executive and sponsors to create program content and foster speaker/sponsor relations
  • Coordinate with the Senior Director of Membership to identify speakers and promote speaker/member relations
  • Monitor global corporate governance issues, best practices, and needsto identify key themes, topics, and speakers for WCD Institutes and other programs
  • Create program agendas and collateral. Advise support staff of all changes/submit changes for events page on website and mobile app
  • Serve as the main point of contact for speakers
  • Coordinate with the support staff in the collection and maintenance of speaker records for program and statistical purposes, the event registration process, attendee management and reporting metrics
  • Adhere to production/print deadlines and fulfill other programming functions as required
  • Take an informed “test and learn” approach by monitoring and evaluating program response to continue to differentiate WCD offerings
  • Provide post-event analysis, budget recaps, and participant feedback to incorporate learnings into future events
  • Work with WCD Peer Group member steering committees, to plan the agenda for quarterly peer exchange events
  • Plan and lead all internal and external planning calls for WCD institutes on a regular basis
  • When appropriate for onsite events, prepare and create program specifications and lead event logistics efforts (menus, setups, audio visual, etc.)
  • Work with executive search firms, sponsors, members, and companies to obtain speaking opportunities for members. Coordinate with support staff to post opportunities on the website and mobile app

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required:

  • 5+ years high level programming experience
  • Knowledge of the virtual events industry with technical ability/experience in researching and selecting virtual platforms
  • Strong knowledge of corporate governance and preferably Board interaction
  • Proven track record in virtual and in-person event planning
  • Strong content development experience
  • Bachelors Degree is mandatory; MBA preferred
  • Mastery of verbal and written communication, including the ability to draft program collateral
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • Proficiency with MS Office, including emphasis on Excel
  • When appropriate, ability to travel for U.S. institutes and to conduct venue site visits
