Our Specialty Structures group, a unique service made possible by the best use of technology and talent, is in need of a Project Engineering Manager to provide the leadership of this team and ensure projects are running smoothly and on time. At the end of the day, it’s all about customer service and making sure our clients are wowed. Unlike the long project lead times of building and being limited to repetitive designs over and over again, our specialty work is exciting, challenging, and fun as you will be working with many materials and will get to see your project designed and built in the same phase. There is much room for growth in this position as our vision is to open satellite locations, as we did for Hurricane Sandy restoration work, with the opportunity to run your own office.

About the position:

You will be responsible for managing the work of your team of 5 on over 100 active projects in Florida and beyond consisting of designs such as docks, decks, seawalls, pools, custom racks and frames, specialty enclosures, and towers. Some of our cool projects have included specialty structural railing designs for glass, aluminum and steel for the largest commercial and residential structures.   Carports, canopies, walkways, louvered roof systems, custom staircases – you get the picture!  If you like a challenge, you will embrace the flood of to do list items on day one!

Snapshot of key accountabilities:

  • Respond to job requests and provide quotes and accurate scope of work on a timely basis
  • Schedule the work with the appropriate person according to work load and priorities of projects
  • Provide ongoing management of the projects from start to finish with opportunities to inspect and field-certify
  • Sign and seal your projects upon completion and turnover to client

 

Measures of your success will be your ability to strengthen the profitability of the department by increasing gross income and net profit, guarantee 100% customer satisfaction by whatever means necessary, develop a more efficient design, management and quality assurance system, and free up time of our President so he can focus on client acquisition and innovations.

Strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end is critical. You excel at developing new ideas and systems and analyzing and improving on established ones. Ability to spot and correct errors is important. Work is done expediently and professionally, while always focusing on accomplishing the goals and demanding the highest quality work from your team. You thrive in a fast paced environment and are able to lead and control multiple projects simultaneously.

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a P.E. with exposure to structural design/plans of structures and building components
  • Excellent construction know-how of structural elements
  • Project Management experience is highly desired
  • Supervisory experience is highly desired
  • Computer savvy including:
    • Excel: intermediate (able to access templates, make updates, improve on file data base)
    • Word: intermediate (able to type your own letters)
    • Outlook: intermediate to advanced (daily use)
    • AutoCAD: basic to intermediate (good working knowledge with ability to open a file, edit and draw as needed)
    • Project Management software is helpful
  • Excellent grammar and communication skills
  • 4 year degree in Civil Engineering
  • Active Florida P.E. License with P.E. experience in structures
  • Strong understanding of Florida Building Codes
