If you love to get into the details of the numbers, we want to talk to you!  Temple Sinai, one of the leading Reform Jewish communities in South Florida, is seeking a full charge Bookkeeper to join our team.   Home to 500 families in the Sky Lake area of North Dade, we congregate on a magnificent tree-shaded campus consisting of our synagogue, social hall, administration, and school buildings that serve our community of all ages and cultural backgrounds.   This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your bookkeeping skills and be a part of a vibrant community!

Several key initiatives await you as we implement a conversion to Blackbaud, re-engineer our cost code scheme, develop new KPI reporting and other new Board-level financial reporting.

Key Accountabilities:

Billing:

  • Prepare comprehensive billing for the synagogue, schools and auxiliary groups including partnership fees, tuition, building fund, donations and programming

Schools:

  • Update and apply payments for FACTS tuition management program, mail notices and follow up on outstanding payments and respond to parent and staff inquiry as necessary

Accounts Receivable/Payable:

  • Process Temple member payments by cash, check and/or credit card
  • Post all transactions to Peachtree accounting and Membership Management systems maintaining current payment journals and cash receipts using appropriate coding
  • Maintain financial records for synagogue partners and update required reports for Executive Director
  • Apply funds and track accounts for restricted and temporary restricted funds for all activities, donations and fundraising

Payroll:

  • Provide technical oversight for reconcileiation and maintaining  payroll for all staff
  • Manage pension contributions, payments and supporting documentation

Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly financials and budget report
  • Prepare spreadsheet with detailed budget line and YTD numbers for schools
  • Create quarterly CAJE  school budget
  • Provide annual Union of Reform Judaism membership report
  • Develop annual accounting review including all schedules
  • Produce 1099’s for synagogue and auxiliary groups

Banking and Reconciliation:

  • Prepare all bank deposits
  • Reconcile bank statements including general ledger, operating, payroll, construction and investment and auxiliary groups as required
  • Maintain Fixed-asset Ledger and PPE Schedule and Depreciation
  • Reconcile credit card accounts

 Skills and Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years experience as a full charge bookkeeper
  • Experience with handling budgets of at least $5M
  • Strong with Excel , Word, Outlook
  • Proficient with Peachtree or Quickbooks
  • Familiar with Blackbaud or other data base software
  • Bilingual in Spanish is of value
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
