Jr. Accountant – Fort Lauderdale, FL

Jr. Accountant – room to grow!

If you are a detailed and organized person looking to grow in the accounting field and work for a unique company, read on!  Indie Salons is seeking a Jr. Accountant to join our small, professional team.  We rent retail locations and build out individual fully customizable luxury studios for the beauty salon industry.   This is a new position to support our growth.  Based in Fort Lauderdale, we currently have one building in Boulder with plans to open 4 additional spaces in Denver/Boulder by the end of the year. This is an opportunity to sharpen your accounting skills and work directly with the Controller and Owners.  We offer stability, work/life balance and a nice office environment without any drama.  We are a busy, yet quiet office, and we get our work done.  If this describes the type of environment you are looking for, we would like to hear from you.

More about Indie:

Our concept is designed for the independent stylist who needs space to operate without the hassle of doing it all themselves.  We offer an easy to customize space (you bring the paint, we’ll put it up!), flexible lease options, high speed wi fi, full amenities, a wholesale beauty supply program, special discounts on marketing materials and credit card processing, and much more.  Our current space in Boulder includes a spa which we own and operate, as well as 32 studios we rent out on weekly or longer term basis.  Please visit us at www.indiesalons.com and learn more about us and how we support beauty entrepreneurs to create a life and career they love – “where beauty skills meet business savvy”.

About the position:

This is a new position reporting directly to our Controller with direct interaction with our Owners.  Your key responsibilities include:

  • Multi-company Accounts Payable (this includes our studio suite rental businesses, spa, management, development, and financing companies)
  • Weekly entry of revenue activity from POS systems into Quickbooks and related Excel reconciliation spreadsheets to ensure accuracy
  • Weekly cash receipts and bank reconcilitations

  • File monthly sales and use tax returns
  • Filing, scanning of accounting documents as needed
  • Payroll processing backup when needed

Traits required for success:

Our ideal candidate is a very strongly detailed and organized person.  You are known for your conscientiousness, staying on task and getting the job done.  You know when to ask for help, while being able to take the initiative to figure things out on your own.  While we will provide the training necessary to get you up and running, you are comfortable learning on the job without a formalized training program a large company may provide.  You enjoy digging for information and identifying discrepancies.

  • Minimum 3 years accounting experience
  • Basic understanding of company financials
  • Good understanding of credits and debits
  • Experience preparing sales and use tax returns – preferred, but will train

  • Intermediate level in Excel
  • Bachelors Degree is preferred, or at a minimum courses in accounting
  • Knowledge of property rental and/or salon industry software a plus
