Environmental Engineer

110 Sand Company, one of the largest sand and gravel mining companies in Long Island, is seeking a strong Environmental Engineer to join our team.  The mining site is almost 300 acres of land located in Melville, a.k.a. “the Pit”, where the dirt/gravel/sand is mined, washed at our plant on site, separated, sold to the construction industry, and then filled with clean construction demolition material.  Our corporate office is located a few minutes away in West Babylon.  Time will be split between the Pit and the office. Reporting to our President, you will play a critical role responsible for the integrity of work performed at the Pit, providing your engineering expertise to all situations as well as guidance and technical assistance to state agencies and the management team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Test and analyze material samples.
  • Prepare and submit permit applications and renewals.
  • Collaborate with the management team to build plot and design working areas.
  • Research potential environmental risks and impacts and develop a plan to address concerns.
  • Analyze data for quality control.
  • Monitor environmental impacts of operations.
  • Liaison with a multitude of Local State and Federal Agencies, as well as outside consultants.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings with management.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, and regulatory officials.
  • Assure that the Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Develop sound and efficient solutions for any issues that may arise.

 

Skills/Experience/Knowledge required:

 

  • 3 – 10 years civil or environmental engineering experience, preferably in a heavy construction or industrial environment
  • Bachelors degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or closely related field required
  • PE license preferred or on PE track
  • Willing to learn or experience with federal and NY state environmental regulations and agencies, including NY state permits and familiarity with NY DEC
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS a plus
  • Proficient with Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Flexible and comfortable working early hours
